Andrey Kurkov has since the Russian invasion of his country in 2022 become one of the leading sources of reliable information on what is happening in Ukraine. He has travelled far and wide to lecture on the state of his country in the face of continuing Russian aggression. He has presented B.B.C. Radio 4’s “Letter from Ukraine” and published reports of the effects of the war in newspapers and magazines all over Europe and America. He is now a crucial voice for his people: “Ukraine’s greatest novelist is fighting for his country,” according to Giles Harvey of the New York Times.

Initially famous as the author of the comic masterpiece Death and the Penguin, Kurkov has now seen his fiction translated into more than 30 languages and two of his last three novels have been longlisted for the International Booker Prize.
